Rio de Janeiro attraction: Statue of Christ The Redeemer

Brazil is an exotic travel destination in South America that offers an amazing travel experience in terms of sightseeing and cultural attractions.

One of the most charming and exotic cities in the world is Rio de Janeiro. The wonderful city is considered the main touristic attraction of Brazil due to its worldwide known symbol – the Statue Of Christ The Redeemer -, its extensive beaches, Copacabana and Ipanema, the famous carnival which takes place here every year, and not least due to its hospitality and cheerful people.

The statue, representing Jesus with open arms and placed on an 8 meters pedestal, is located on Corcovado Mountain and offers a splendid view over the city. It is over 30 meters high and 22 meters wide, and weights 1,145 tons.

The inauguration of the monument took place in October, 1931 and ever since it represents the main attraction of the Brazilian city. Around it stretches a large botanical garden that emphasizes the beauty of this place.

During the first years, the visitors had to climb 222 stairs carved in rock or use the train to reach the top of the mountain. Nowadays, the tourists can use different and more convenient alternatives, such as the escalators and elevators.

Anyway, if you find yourself in a romantic mood while visiting Rio de Janeiro and you decide to discover the great view from the top of the city, do it the right way: use the train – so did the Popes, kings, presidents, artists and other personalities over the last 100 years when they visited the Corcovado Mountain.

Rio de Janeiro in Brazil is a perfect travel destination for you, especially if you are aiming for a romantic getaway or a holiday with friends because it is such a welcoming city with plenty tourist attractions that you can choose from.
